Green-Y is enabling air compressor manufacturers to deliver oil-free systems with industry-leading efficiency with the launch of its water-lubricated, single-screw airend. The company is expanding its OEM partner network and inviting additional manufacturers to evaluate the technology. In parallel, the company is implementing its second industrial reference project.
Green-Y’s water-lubricated, single-screw airend
The airend delivers 100% oil-free compressed air and has demonstrated efficiency improvements of up to 20% compared with conventional oil-free technologies. At 100 psig (7 barg), the 40 horsepower (hp) airend achieves a specific power consumption below 22 hp per 100 cfm, measured in accordance with ISO 1217. For industrial users, the lower energy demand reduces total cost of ownership and operating-related carbon emissions, particularly in continuous-duty applications.
The company has reengineered single-screw air compressor technology through proprietary screw geometries and optimized water injection. The patented design improves sealing between the compression elements while maintaining controlled water distribution throughout the compression chamber.
The balanced single-screw architecture operates at speeds from 1,000 to 3,000 rpm. Water lubricates, seals and directly cools the compression chamber, enabling near-isothermal compression with discharge temperatures below 140°F (60°C). This combination reduces mechanical and thermal losses while supporting efficient, single-stage and completely oil-free operation.
The current design operates at discharge pressures from 60 to 190 psig (4 to 13 barg) and drive powers ranging from 15 to 100 hp (11 to 75 kW). The company plans to extend the design to 335 hp (250 kW) and is testing a two-stage configuration for pressures up to 580 psig (40 barg).
Green-Y combines direct water cooling with the balanced, low-speed characteristics of a single-screw architecture. The result is efficient, 100% oil-free compression in a single stage.
The company’s second industrial air compressor is being installed at a metal and plastics manufacturing facility in Switzerland. The system is designed to deliver 160 cfm at 106 psig (7.3 barg) and will operate continuously. Its first system is already operating at a Swiss manufacturer of pneumatic and automation technologies. The technology has accumulated more than 10,000 operating hours under industrial conditions.
The company supplies airends and integration support to established air compressor manufacturers, enabling them to incorporate the technology into their own product architectures, controls, brands and service networks.
