Opening Session

Frank Mueller
President
Compressed Air & Gas Institute

Paul L. Baker, PE, LEED AP BD+C, CPD, GPD
Senior Mechanical Engineer
Jacobs

Abdulaziz Dulaijan
Engineering Consultant
Saudi Aramco

Tate Pearson
Director of Facilities Engineering & Asset Reliability
Ardagh Glass Packaging

  • Opening Remarks – presented by Frank Mueller, President of the Compressed Air & Gas Institute (CAGI).

With competition increasing, electrical costs on the rise and environmental concerns growing, optimizing energy efficiency is a top priority across industries. Mueller will provide an update on ongoing initiatives and an overview of the invaluable resources provided by CAGI to educate and support end users, compressed air professionals and others who influence the implementation of compressed air systems.

  • Compressed Air System Compliance with the ASHRAE 90.1 Commercial Building Energy Code – presented by Paul L. Baker, PE, LEED AP BD+C, CPD, GPD, Senior Mechanical Engineer at Jacobs Engineering

Jacobs Engineering serves the defense industry and large corporations whose buildings are required to comply with U.S. Energy Efficiency Codes. These codes point to ASHRAE 90.1 as the overall design standards for energy efficient commercial and industrial buildings. In 2022, ASHRAE 90.1 added Section 10.4.6 on compressed air system efficiency. In this presentation, Baker will review Section 10.4.6 and detail the high priority Jacobs places on following the standards of ASHRAE 90.1 for clients.

  • Enhancing Industrial Cooling Water Systems: Strategies and Benefits – presented by Abdulaziz Dulaijan, an Engineering Consultant at Saudi Aramco

Dulaijan will share recently developed best practices and guidelines for conducting performance assessments for industrial cooling water systems to guarantee a system that performs efficiently, reliably and environmentally friendly. The material is based on current industry experiences and recent projects within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and internationally. Attendees will explore advanced monitoring and control, innovative treatment solutions, proactive maintenance strategies and the benefits of an enhancement program.

  • Ardagh’s Asset Reliability Program: Compressed Air and Cooling Water – presented by Tate Pearson, Director of Facilities Engineering & Asset Reliability at Ardagh Glass Packaging – North America

At Ardagh Glass Packaging, Pearson and his team of highly accomplished engineers focus on improving all systems providing air, water, gas and electricity to the operations team who transform raw and recycled materials into glass containers for beer, wine, spirits and food. Pearson will explain how this advancement in operational capabilities aims to minimize total operating costs by integrating new and emerging technologies with conventional processes, facilitating a transition to proactive maintenance strategies.

Plenary Session

Philip Johnston, PE, CEM
Technical Manager
Woodard & Curran

Alan Edington
Global Energy Director
Gates

Sean Ferris
Senior Manager Ride/Show – Facility Interface
Universal Creative

  • Reducing GHG Emissions With Integrated Heating, Cooling, And Compressed Air Design – presented by Philip Johnston, PE, CEM, Technical Manager at Woodard & Curran

  • Gates Performance System (GPS) Standards: Chiller, Cooling Towers and Compressed Air – presented by Alan Edington, Global Energy Director at Gates Industrial Corporation

Compressed air and cooling systems are engineered for performance and energy efficiency to meet production and sustainability requirements for Gates. During this presentation, Edington will review the importance of specifications and standards ensure standardization of equipment and design. He’ll also explore Gates’s KPIs for energy system performance that each site uses to maintain proper system operation.

  • Compressed Air Systems in the Amusement Park Industry – The Importance of Air Quality – presented by Sean Ferris, Senior Manager Ride/Show – Facility Interface at Universal Creative

Compressed air is used in a lot of different ways across the world, including at amusement parks. Universal Creative uses air in a lot of different ways to meet its performance standards and reliability requirements. Ferris will explore how compressed air is used at Universal Creative and how his team ensures the air quality protects the company’s assets.
